G-RONGI PROFILE
THE TESTAMENT.

Born Githinji Gicharu, G-rongi is an established Hip Hop Artist hailing from the Eastland’s of Nairobi, Dandora Ghetto, his music passion started at a very tender age, during his teenage years he doubled School work and sport. He played for Mathare Youth Sport Association (MYSA).when he was the league under 14 year’s team, he emerged the overall best team player and was awarded several medals.

Hip Hop music was gaining popularity, and the torch bearers were none other than Dandora rap pioneers, the trio Kalamashaka. By 1998 G-rongi was playing with the words and rymes; he would write down rhymes on paper and later share his lyrical prowess with fellow emcees from the Mau Mau camp.

Come 2000 and his house was full of kilograms of paper of lyrical poetry, Hip Hop was hitting the street at unprecedented rate, he started frequenting the famous club Florida 2000 in Nairobi, competing in the free styling rap battles with fellow emcees from the Mau Camp collective. He teemed up with raw rapper Mwenyeji and together they lyrical Guru Wenyeji, they took the club by storm and went ahead to be undisputed freestyle battle for two consecutive years.

Mission one accomplished and having made a signature in the club and street, G-rongi it was wings, Mau Mau Camp had made friends with Coast Hip Hop collective Ukoo Flani, forming the Kenyan Street Family UkooFlani MauMau, he traveled to Mombasa and stayed with the affiliates for a whole year, wining fans in the street of Mombasa.

He first steeped in the booth with Mau Mau Mcee Kah and Ukoo Flani Alaikei, they did a raw and rugged Joint at Soul Child Studio, and the Producer was an ace Producer Edwin Wariua.

In 2002 as Group Wenyeji they produced a Kikuyu Rap song :”Nduinie”(blow it up) done at Samawati Studio with veteran Producer Ambrose Akwabi of Mandugu Digital, The single was a chart buster and caused a stir in the Nairobi streets.

In 2003 G-rongi was involved in many Youth Development Activities and more notably, the Maono cultural group, a community headed by the rappers to promote talents development, through activities like Acrobats, Foot ball ,Dancers and Artist, together with his family they donated a piece of land next to their place. The project went on to house Maono Cultural Group and the UkooFlani MauMau.

2004 and come the “Kilio Cha Haki Project” a Compilation Album between 38 Nairobi artist Sponsored by Youth Initiative Kenya and a Netherlands based organization. G-rongi was involved in the organization and also featured on two tight tracks “Pesa Pesa”feat Abbi of Kikwetu and Black General, and Situlikwambia feat:Kamau Mrefu A.K.A Urezo .

G-rongi considers his Music Social Conscious spiced up with Political Economical and Social commentary. His Music reflects the Society, he says the STREET, through my eyes. If swords fail words will prevail, The Rapper Music is inspiration to the People in the struggle, when the Soldiers are marching “My music is that Oasis of ammunition for the People to Strive Forward with the Faith of a little child, full of innocence and a strong believe in the divine.

The Monk has performed in all major Hip Hop concerts from small street freestyles to major shows in Nairobi, Mombasa, Eldoret and Malindi.Across he has performed in Dar le Salaam and Morogolo, I n 2006 he performed in the Annual Zanzibar international Festival Sauti Za Busara.

The year 2007 he participated in The Fire on the Mountain concert held in South Africa’s City Jo’Burg, where he stormed the Stage together with other Artist from the Africa Diaspora. Sky was not the limit, his music journey took him across the Oceans and found himself in Oslo, this was during the Black History Concert, where he added International Fan base.

G-rongi is Hip Hop Emcee, Black Activist and a Community Youth Leader.
ALBUM
The Rapper long anticipated album is almost complete, in the Year 2005 he released the Smash Hit Single “Fear Tour” which proved the Mcee’s lyrical prowless, the Single cut him a Niche in East Africa Entertainment.

Njaro which is title of the album means style in the street slang, it features Established artist like Kenyan: Kama and Johnny of Kalamashaka,Brayo of former Warogi Wawili,Johny boi from umoja hood, Mau Mau first lady Attu, Neo Soul heart throb Gaza, Wakamba Wawili,Wenyeji, Singer Christian Apondi,all done under different record labels and various producers.

It also features Ibra “the hustler” of the Arusha outfit Nako 2 Nako Soldiers, Alpha (Senegal) Afrikason (Norway) Papa (Burundi) Suge (Rwanda) Mandela (Malawi).
G-rongi is on his way of Climbing International Charts.

He has two finished videos ;Kichungi a single taking the Airwaves by Storm, has a beat from a Norway Producer and was arranged and mixed by the Genius UkooFlani MauMau Producer Cheese an’ Brain, the video is by Mrembo Rebel Production. The other single is “Champee” Feat Brayo; video was shot by Beru,

G-rongi considers Himself a perfectionist and will take time just to make sure the whole process flows smoothly without pressure, a rapper career is not complete without hitting the screen, and he made a guest appearance in RaStar a Movie by Directed by Wanuri Kahiu.

He assures his Album “NJARO”Will hit a store near you soon, and it is in the last stages; expect twenty something tracks and a bonus of raw underground Hip Hop.
PROJECT

Apart from overseeing development projects in His UkooFlani MauMau base Camp project, he is also involved in teaching a group of young Kids “Eastland’s connection” on the Art of Emceeing among other projects.
